First when v clear the cutoff of Analytical section,only then other sections are evaluated.So,Don,t waste time by spending much time on Programming.
Analytical Section:
Analytical Section consists of Vocab. ( pick the odd one out ) and also some codings like ( ALPHA z coded as BETAH , DELTA z coded as GAMMA, then how z ETA coded ? .. this one .. i have framed it :) ) . This part z a bit difficult one. So, my advice z don,t think much about these.Along with above two categories, there shall be PUZZLES in this section.In the recent paper i attended,i got the following questions.

Volume of a LARGE SPHERE z ( pi * # ) .Area of it z ( pi * & ) where ,#,&, r four digit integers.What z the value of the radius ? ( Along with answer , v have to write approach). answer: may be 22

In howmany ways can a rectangle can be cut into 4 equal parts.

Given 1,2,3,25,50,75 and 100 .. Using each number "one and only once" and using arithmetic operators, write 383 in terms of the above given numbers. answer: 383 = ( 100 + 2 ) * 3 + 75 + ( (50 * 1)/2 )

A tougher question of above. given 1,2,25,50,75,100 .. write 383 in terms of the given numbers.

He gives a highly impossible possible and asks to give a solution.( To check ur innovative ideas :) ) For us,Suppose u have suddenly changed to an ANT.U know human,s abilities, but u have forgot their language.How can u make urself to convey ur BELOVED that u have been changed to an ANT.
Programming

This section consists of 4 questions.Out of 4, for 3 questions v have to write code.The last question shall be .. they shall give some code and v have to write whether the code is correct one r not .. if not correct , where the modifications show be done.and also v have to write what that CODE IS DOING..

VIRTUSA PATTERN & INTERVIEW ON 13 JULY 2006 AT VISAKHAPATNAM


On July 13th there is an off campus in pydah college which I have attended. There is a huge crowd. Around 1100 members attended to this interview. Out of that only 200 qualified in written exam and after that in GD 140 were short listed and after technical 90 were selected and atlast after HR round 70 were taken into the company.

Selection procedure:
1. Written exam
2. Group discussion
3. Technical interview
4. HR interview.

WRITTEN TEST:

There were 5 sections in written exam
1. Verbal ability-----25 questions------20 min
Its easy which consisted of sentence completion based on prepositions.
Some synonyms like SHELVED
2 Reading Comprehensions.

2. Aptitude--------25 ques.--------20 min
Its somewhat easy but time management is important.
3 questions on sets and relations venn diagrams problems on ages
5 questins on if a cube is painted with black color and divided into 729 cubes how
many cubes have single, double, triple, none faces colored.
Given two conditions and we have to select howmany conditions we need to answer the given question.

3. Attention detail-------20questions------20 min
Its very easy by seeing the options we can answer.
Some questions like if *->+, /->-, +->/, - -> * evaluate an expression.

4. C&DS---------40 questions--------30 min
Its somewhat difficult and many of them have been failed to qualify in this section.
Many data structutes programs were given and asked for the function to be inserted
given in options like sorting of linked lists, insertion of node in a linked list, assigning
a Node and so on.
C programs were easy.

In this section a paragraph a notes based on blue tooth was given and after reading it for few min they take the paper back and then the question paper will bw givwn containing ten questions. We should write based on what we have studied and remembered. Its not that much difficult.

GROUP DISCUSSION:
After the announcement of the short listed candidates from written test all of us are divided into groups each containing 10 members.
The GD topics are like:
Reservation system
Public toilets
Sports like cricket
Politics
I got the reservations topic and I spoke to it from the basic idea of its amendment by Dr.Ambethkar and the present situation is not like that and a better system should be imposed not based on caste so that every one who is poor can afford for education.

TECHNICAL INTERVIEW:
On the next day ie on 14th technical and HR rounds are to be held.
The technical round is little bit tough due to the heavy competition from MCA students. Of course the questions are from our interested areas in programming language. I said that I am interested in C

I was asked to write the following programs and explain the logic:
Check whether the given number or a string is palindrome or not.
-Print the Pascal triangle
-To print the number given in an integer form to the same in words like one for 1, two for 2 and so on
This I have done using arrays.
-Fibonacci series program 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21.......
-Program to print the angle between the pointers in the wall clock when time is taken as input.
-Program to investigate the free cells in the string and reduce the wastage.
-Can trees be implemented using arrays?
-Swapping program using XOR operation.
-Some programs were given and I am asked for output.
-when is the queue empty and when is it full.
-Some questions on electronics like what is meant by diode, transistor, resistor, capacitor.
-Why are you interested in s/w?

VIRTUSA PATTERN - 17 MAY 2006 - HYDERABAD
Hi,

I attended the Virtusa test on may 17 2006,in St Francis college, Hyderabad . The test was for two and a half hours. It contained 5 sections.

It was organized by Metric Trac. Be prepared for the long test. It might be exhausting.

The first part was vocabulary. It contained sentence completion with prepositions and that kind of stuff, then the reading comprehensions. Basic English knowledge is enough.

But better to prepare for most frequent words in barrons. To be frankly told I didn,t prepare but u will have better idea if u prepare. It has 45 questions for 30 minutes.

Then the Quantitative part, It was basic maths containing logical questions. Prepare R.S Agarwal. It has 30 questions for 30 minutes.

Then comes the critical reasoning section. It was ok. No need to prepare much for this. I didn,t know that these many sections were there till I attended the test.

Then the technical test, It contains all the CSE subjects like C , C++, Java, Data Structures, Operating Systems, RDBMS. All the sections are multiple choice. The C programs were very tough, related to pointers. It has 45 Questions for 30 minutes. Time management is critical here

Finally the learning ability test, Where 2 pages are given. First all the stuff has to be read for 20 minutes. After u read that, then they will take back the paper and give u a question paper containing 10 questions .Answer those questions by remembering what u have read. It was for 10 minutes. It was regarding Pentium 4 and its pipelining. It was easy when compared to other questions.

After 4 Days they informed me by mail that I was selected. Out of 1200 members they selected 120 members. After that there was a GD. The topic was"Should women have dress code in colleges and offices". I was the only one in the group who opposed the topic in a batch of 10. So I have to talk a lot regarding the matter. I told we have dress codes in schools so as not to distinguish between the rich and poor but after entering the college level they will be more mature and staying in a democratic country where everyone has the right to speak and express their feelings, imposing constraints on women is not at all fare. The discussion continued in this way. It was for 10 minutes

Then there was technical interview.

They asked me to list out all the topics in C. Then they asked me some outputs for programs. Then they asked me to write some programs related to files.They asked me Object Oriented concepts .Then they asked me about my project. Then they gave me a situation and asked me to tell about it. It was ok. It was for 1 hour.

WRITTEN TEST:

For vocabulary just Basic English knowledge is enough. Questions r just on articals, prepositions two comprehensions etc

For Aptitude it’s just mainly on ven diagrams, Cube problems, some from R.s Agarwal.Its really very easy.

Reasoning is also very easy here we can get more marks, just they give silly questions to test our spontaneity .They just give some different words we have to find the correct one. Remaining Questions are also very easy.

Technical section: This is very critical section to answer. They mainly give Questions on C&DS, but they are very tough questions. They gave some large programs of length 1 page we have to check the errors. If we have the basic concepts with us then we can answer some questions easily. Test your C Skills book is useful for this concepts.

Learning section: Here they give one big essay/article of 2 pages for first 10 minutes, we have to read it. Then they take that paper & give some 10 questions on that essay. We have to answer those questions in 20 minutes. We have essay on some Mobile communications.

Note: Friends in this test each & every section has its own time we have to complete each section in allotted time. They take Question papers from us after completion of each section time. There is sectional cutoff for each section.

Out of 980 students they selected 160 students from written test.

GROUP DISCUSSION:

Friends this not the elimination round. We have the topic “Is Vijayawada is suitable for Second Capital or not?”, but I only oppose this topic. In this GD just we need to speak something about the topic that is enough. From our group they selected total 7 students from group of 8. Just follow the GD rules that are enough to clear this round. Some of our friends have the topics like “media role in corruption”, “Affect of movies on Youth”, “Love marriages Vs Arranged marriages”,”Terrarism”.

Out of 160 students they selected 101 students.

TECHNICAL INTERVIEW:

This is also critical part of entire interview. They mainly ask about the questions on C & DS. They may ask some programs also on mainly DS. My questions are:

1) What is your favorite subject? I answered as OS.

2) What are the major functions of OS

3) Write the program for reverse the string in any language?

4) What is a ternary operator? How it is used to compare 3 operators?

5) What are basic search algorithms?

6) What is a binary search?

7) How many sorting algorithms are there? What are they?

8) Explain any sorting algorithm with example?



Interviewer is very calm and he is very jovial person. But my friends face some critical questions on DS.

Write a program to check whether given date is valid or not?

Write a program to delete a node in double linked list? (Entire program)

Just through with the basic concepts on C & DS, Java, DBMS, and OS.

Out of 101 students they selected nearly 70 students.

Now I am very happy.

Written Test:
Again in written test it consists of different sections

1) Vocabulary: It contained sentence completion with prepositions. They were very easy. For Example:

This type of sentences around 10 or 11, they were very easy. No need for preparation. Then Reading Comprehension and some other. Total questions were 30. If u prepare Barrons high frequent words some sections were easy.

2) Critical Reasoning: It was ok. No need to prepare much for this. I didn,t know that these many sections were there till I attended the test

3) Quantative Aptitude: Prepare R.S.Agrawal well its enough. Mainly cubes sums, time and distance, time and work and so on.

4) Tech Written: This is main. It is very difficult frankly speaking. They gave bits on trees,graphs,linked lists,pointers.If u r good at DS (data structures) then u can write this Exam well. In this section they will give programs like creation of link, traversing etc. No need to worry, options will be there. Here mainly time management is important.

5) Learning Ability test, Where 2 pages are given. First all the stuff has to be read for 20 minutes. After u read that, then they will take back the paper and give u a question paper containing 10 questions. Answer those questions by remembering what u have read. It was for 10 minutes. The topics given to me were on embedded systems an mailing technology

Now comes the GD -My topic given was "should Reservations in India were necessary or not".
In GD there were around 10 people and competition I very tough.
The results were announced and I got selected. This is the first day process
2-nd day tech interview nd hr Interview

In Tech Interview they asked me nearly about 5 subjects bcz am comps student. The subjects were
1) C-language
2) Java
3) Dbms
4) OS
5) UML
The interview was abt 2hrs it was very tough time for any body bcoz this filtering round.

VIRTUSA PAPER ON 11th JUNE

Hi friends,
This is sravani. First of all , I would like to thank this site and all the friends who posted their experience in this site. I went to Virtusa, campus interview on 11th n 12th of june-2007.

The interview process consists of 4 sections-
1) Written Test
2) GD
3) Technical Interview
4) HR Interview

A total of 850 people attended the interview. Out of which around 114 cleared the written test. Around 80 people cleared GD. 35 students cleared the technical interview. Finally 29 students were selected after the HR interview. On 11th we went there by 8:00am. Then we had a PPT whish is followed by a written test.

In Written Test ,we had 5 sections--
1) Verbal
2) Analytical
3) Technical -- C&DS
4) Attention to details
5) Learning ability

No negative marking. There is sectional cut off.
1)Verbal:
Verbal section includes--
a) Reading Comprehension
b) Fill in the blanks with prepositions
and many more questions related to grammar.

This section was easy and we need to know basic rules of grammar,thts it
2)Analytical:
This section includes--
a) Problems related to venn diagrams
b) problems on cubes
c) some reasoning problems

Reasoning problems like ----
p+q means p&q are brothers
p*q means p is the mother of q
Q) if p*q+r, then wt is the relation between p&r
A) p is the mother of r

3) Technical- C&DS
In this section all the questions r from c&ds and 90% of the questions r from DS. U shud be very good at DS to clear this section. Prepare DS well.

4) Attention to details:
In this section, some questions like the following are given--
if $ represents 1 n * represents 0; then wt is the value ****$$$$
A) 15

5) Learning ability:
In this section a big passage was given and atime of 10 min was given. After 10 min the passage was taken back and some questions on tht passage was given.

2) GD:
our topic was " Are we passive to corruption in India"
They gav 1 min time to think some points. The GD lasted 4 10 min. Ther will be an added advantage if u initiate the topic.

3) Technical interview:
It lasted for 25 min. C,DS,DBMS basics were asked. A program is given to write the code of it.

4) HR interview
All simple questions r asked. This round was not tht strict.
They announced the results T 9:00pm on jun-12th and i was very happy to see my name in the final list.

VerbalAbility section contains basic questions on articles,english grammer , find the wrong word, 2 Rc,s ,e.t.c. This section is easy to clear and need to know the rules of grammer. For Meanings read only high frequency words from Barrons.

AnalyticalAbility section deals with problems from set theory,family relations,basic puzzles (based on cubes...) .Prepare from RS Agarwal.

Attention to Details section contains problems based of maths.For ex : if * denotes + ,/ denotes -,+ denotes -,- denotes *, then find value of 4*5+3-2/8.The section also contains questions based on semilarities.For ex : choose which are similar : 514.135798,514.135799,514.137598,514.135798.

C & DataStructures section contain more questions on find the output of the code.Many contains pointers.So best thing is to prepare pointers & generally select the small question & do them first .Then go for big questions that contain a page long codes.

LearningAbility section deals with more on whether u can grasp the important points from the pera.In this section we are given with 3 pages long essay that contain diagrams,numbers,new techniques,new names.We are given with 10 min time to read the essay.Then they will take the essay scripts. Now questions based on the essay are given. 10 questions ,15 min.For this section the best thing is to remember all the new terms and values.Also understand the concept of the essay.
The essay given to us based on microctollers that provide cryptographic functionality.
THERE IS SECTIONAL CUTOFF FOR EACH SECTION

By God grace i have been shortlisted for the next process. On Dec 7th we were called for GD & PersonalInterview.

GROUP DISCUSSION : A panel of 8 members will be there as a team for GD. We will be given a topic and time frame given to us was 1 min.Then we can start the GD.Just follow the rules of GD.The discussion time is 10 min.At the end every one is asked to give their opinion.
15 min later we were shortlisted for the Technical round.

TECHNICAL INTERVIEW : It lasted for 1 hr.

2. What r ur hobbies? My Ans : Drawing , Reading mythological books.
3. All the questions were rotated on my hobbies since the interviewer was good at drawing.

I Round :- Written Test ( conducted by METRIC Track)415 are attended. It is having 5 phases of paper,s .
(1) Verbal Ability --- synonyms,antonyms, articles, wrong sentense,s, paragraph,s.
(2) Apptitude Ability --- appitude questions from r.s.agarwal (regular)
(3) Mental Ability --- (very very very easy dont get confused)
(4) Technical Ability --- questions from C and datastructures (.SOLVE simple questions first which may be present at the last.. be careful)
(5) Reading Ability --- they give a 3 pages document to read and understand and they take back the paers and give us a question paper of abt 10 questions (read only once and very carefully.. remember the key words and main theme of the document )

II Round :- Group Discussion (conducted by the HR Team)short listed 62
The topics given are very very casual. they just want to test whether every one is having their own idea and are we able to talk when we are given a chance . After the announcement of the short listed candidates from written test all of us are divided into groups each containing 10 members.
The GD topics are like:

wat
Politics,...etc

III Round :- Technical interview (short listed 47)
This is a bit tough round . the session lasted for about 45minut to 1 hour. be confident on the subjects you are interested. about my all projects first...

I was asked to write the following programs and explain the logic:
Check whether the given number or a string is palindrome or not.
To print the number given in an integer form to the same in words like one for 1, two for 2 and so on
Program to print the angle between the pointers in the wall clock when time is taken as input.
Can trees be implemented using arrays?
Some programs were given and I am asked for output.
when is the queue empty and when is it full.

I was asked two puzzles
About the inheritance in C++
Some questions on electronics like what is meant by diode, transistor, resistor, capacitor.
Why are you interested in s/w?

IV Round :- HR interview.
This is the Easiest Round we have to face. But be careful. Here the Key,s to Success are CONFIDENT and COMMUNICATION SKILLS. Be confident of wat u say. the questions are regular like.....

der r 3 cubes are placed horizontally and cutted into 64 (each cube) & den 1st one line (4*4)row of second & 1st 2 rows of 3rd cube r removed & painted black all sides now que are

Attehtion to detail this is very easy section & que on decision making r some twisted be prepared from R S aggarwal’s VERBAL reasoning. Der r some que based on binary numbers 5 prob r given $=1,*=0 then what is value of $$***$$/**$*$$$$ like this



Technical this is hardest in all sections we hav to do 40 q in 30 min & der r 10 progarammes each of 1 ½ page length don’t do them first be prepare from DS especially from linkedlist&trees most of d q r based on that

READING ability they given a 2 ½ page material on pipelining of microprocessors is given followed by simple q s
They said there is sectional cutoff but I hav seen my answer paper & I got 76 out of 120 n der is nothing abt sutoff marks on dat sheet

hi friends, In our college we got "VITUSA" as seventh company...cut off is 65 for power branches and 70 for non it branches....
it directly means dat dey r not interested in non it studs...

h.r interview--------------10 luckily i am 1 among them

written will b 2 n haif hour u should play a very long innings
1)verbal
2)quanti
3)attension 2 details
4)c and data structures
5)essay digestion

der wil b individual cut off as well as total cutt of...two criteria should b fulfilled else u r out of race...i think tot cut of is 60/120.

if u r eng medium studs no need 2 prepare 4 verbal its easy.....
quanti r.s. aggarwal is enough
articles,prepositions,identifying correct sentence n so so................
0 for $ n 1 for * questions n sorry i dont remember all....

4 attension 2 details never attempt + 4 - n * 4 / ques cause its time consuming better gor 4 easy ones...
4coming to C u have to perfect in data structures....each question will 1 and half page...u have 2 get de correct output...
5)essay wil b given n u need to remember key points n after taking question paper questions will b given........its "CPU PIPELINING" .its easy..

Tech interview:
for gods sake my panel is so cooperative n cool....he gave freedom to xpress wat i no..u cant clear tech interview if r not good at data structures cause dese people r sound in data structures...just keep cool tell confidently wat he asks. specially linked list programmes.....

4.i said my area interest is "communications" and asked 2 xplain pcm,am,pm,angle m etc..

finally 83 were selected

Selection process

The test was conducted by merit trac
It has 5 sections
1.verbal
2.analytical
3.attention to detail
4.c&datastructures
5.learning ability


VERBEL:

1.fill in the blancks with prepositions.(it is very easy.refer any
grammar book)
2.reading comprehension
Passage will be given and questions will be based on it.
Attempt this at the last.
The time u save after doing the rest of the part can be used in the reading the passage well.
3 . correction of sentence-
use the appropriate option to make the sentence correct.
( if u know the correct usage of articles and it will be easy)


ANALYTICAL:

2 questions were similar to the puzzle test in R.S Agrawal(verbal
and non verbal)
5 questions were asked on the cube
I don,t remember more in this section
Its more time consuming.so manage the time.


ATTENTION TO DETAIL:

10 questions r very simple .
just by looking carefully at the options u get the answer

mathematical operations
refer to the mathematical operations in verbal resoning by R.S.Agrawal

if * stands for 0 and $ stands for 1 and the $ value gets twiced when
it is moved to left
5 questions were asked upon this data.
Eg: the value of 625
Options were like $$$*** $$*$* and so on


C AND DATASTRUCTURES:

(40 questions in 40 min)
This is very important .They see the minimum qualifing mark in this
round
So be careful
Mostly data structures were asked.

. Large Program was given and output was asked.
. And also the options contained the code for the program(inserting
a node..)
And some C, basic,s.

LEARNING ABILITY

A passage will be given to read for 15 minutes and the papers will be
taken away and they dont allow u to use pen also
Then 10 questions will be asked based on it.

Main points

. Read the passage well
. See the figure numbers correctly
They ask question by just giving the figure no.
And also the calculations may also be asked.
The results were declared and I cleared the round

On the next day morning they conducted the technical interview and HR

be prepared with the C & DS,DBMS,S.E .They may ask u JAVA and SQL also.

The technical questions asked me by them are

i remembered these questions only,

finally i observed one thing, during my interview,
they see only just basics but it should be perfect,
programming skills and knowledge must and should be compulsory
after 1/2 hour i got thru the T.R

after 3 hours i was called for the H.R

In H.R you should speak very well and it depends on the HR interviewr
my H.R was done by madam

she moved very friendly with me
always be smile during H.R
she asked me about the meaning of my name
tell about ur father
she asked me about my academic background
be prepared with that
asked about strengths and weaknesses.........?
what was ur greatest success and failure....?
she asked me about IT industry ,like
what does IT company do
why IT industry is falling..?
answered well
she asked me "do u read news papers"
yes mam,i told hindu and eenadu
she asked me about the head lines of that day
i told
she asked me about the favorite coloumn
sports news
she asked about sports and extended to cricket
i spoke very well about cricket(T20,50-50,test cricket)
she asked me about the diff between deccan chargers and Rajastan royals
did u see all matches..........?
i answered excellently
she asked why virtusa ...?
what is ur long term goal........?
about salary
u should prepare well before going to interview and should be confident.
Confident is the major factor to get the job
one day before the interview u should know about the virtusa company
like values,awards,c.e.o and all details about virtusa


finally after one hour i was selected and i was one of 83 people(selected) out of 600 people(207 written)
